This decision comes after a disturbing incident on Monday, August 18, 2025, where some Akatakpa masquerades allegedly brutalized an innocent commuter from Kogi State at Ezzi, Iheakpu-Awka, leaving him hospitalized. The ugly incident forced the council boss to consult with security agencies and traditional institutions before wielding the big stick.
According to Barr. Ukwueze, while the government remains committed to preserving culture and tradition, such practices must never be turned into a cover for crime, intimidation, or abuse of human rights. He made it clear that *any Akatakpa seen in operation during the suspension period will be arrested and prosecuted*. Security operatives have already been directed to enforce this order to the letter.
This is a bold move from the Igbo-Eze South council chairman, who insists that public safety and order must always come first.
