Tuesday, 3rd December, 2024, in a determined effort to combat unemployment and equip the youth of Enugu North Senatorial Zone with vital employable skills, the Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Ferdinand Ugochukwu Ukwueze, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of ALGON, Enugu State, led a distinguished delegation on a high-level courtesy visit to the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Enugu.
Accompanying the Chairman were Hon. Ejike Amedu, Chairman of PDP, Igbo-Eze South LGA; Rt. Hon. Erochukwu Ugwueze, Chairman of the Youth Development and Welfare Committee; Hon. Emeka Ugwoke, Secretary; and Hon. Emeka Ugwuarua, Member. The delegation sought to forge a robust partnership with NDE to drive youth-focused skill acquisition initiatives across the region.
During the meeting, Hon. Ukwueze reiterated the urgency of equipping young people with market-relevant skills as a panacea for the twin challenges of unemployment and economic stagnation. He highlighted the latent potential of the underutilized Skill Acquisition Center within his council and passionately advocated for its immediate activation to serve as a hub for transformative skill training.
“Our administration is resolutely committed to empowering the youth, not just in Igbo-Eze South LGA, but across the entire Enugu North Senatorial zone. Skill acquisition remains the cornerstone of sustainable development, and we are eager to explore synergies with NDE to actualize this vision,” Ukwueze stated.
The Enugu State Coordinator of NDE, Mrs. Ada Ojobor, lauded the Chairman’s proactive approach, emphasizing the alignment of his vision with NDE’s mission to drive vocational training, entrepreneurial development, and job creation. She elaborated on the Directorate’s array of programs designed to uplift unemployed youths and pledged NDE’s readiness to collaborate with Igbo-Eze South LGA in implementing impactful projects.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to develop a comprehensive framework for collaboration, marking a significant milestone in the fight against youth unemployment in Enugu North zone. Hon. Ukwueze also praised the visionary leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose agenda for economic transformation and human capital development has inspired local initiatives like this. He emphasized that the partnership with NDE aligns with the Governor’s mission to empower communities and drive sustainable growth across Enugu State.
