Politics Has Been Dangerous for Me – Orji Kalu Cries Out, Says He Funded PDP with His Personal Fortune
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed that his foray into politics has brought him more financial losses than gains, insisting he has never benefitted anything from holding public office. Speaking during an interview on Channels TV on Sunday, June 2, the former Abia State governor said he has always used his personal funds to support his political ambitions and even to run government while in office.
Kalu, who currently represents Abia North in the Senate, declared that he single-handedly financed a large part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its formation in 1998, claiming he donated over $1 million to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and gave the party a staggering $500 million. He attributed his wealth to his successful business ventures in rice, sugar, petrol, and other commodities before venturing into politics, noting that the federal government’s actions against his businesses since then have cost him dearly.
